Stories from our Skills Academy learners

William Denny

The VENI partnership has provided some valuable experience working with Local Flavours. Planning and attending events have given me a real-world view of what it’s like to work in the events industry. It has been a big contrast working in a new field, going from retail to events. The VENI Skills Academy had developed my skills in teamwork, communication, interview techniques and much more. Overall, my experience with VENI has given me a chance to work in the visitor economy, an industry I have become really passionate about and I’m very grateful that I’ve been given this amazing opportunity.

Working with VENI has given me opportunities that I never thought were possible throughout my college education. Creating content for VENI has exposed me to a new working style to what I’m normally used to. This involves learning transferable skills that I can then take away with me for my future career in the world of work such as leadership and emotional intelligence. Alongside working with VENI, Local Flavours events have also been an amazing opening to the creativity of working in the events industry. I have also been introduced to the local visitor economy and the values that it display, exposing me to roles that I had never considered.

Thus far as a VENI learner I have learnt a new variety of skills. This involves teamwork, flexibility and professional and formal writing, all of which have helped to expand my creativity. I have participated in the creation of a new VENI brochure, as well as supporting multiple events including the Bury St Edmunds Christmas Food and Drink Festival and the Wymondham Wynterfest. My experience as an VENI learner has greatly improved my confidence in so many ways. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the role and am extremely excited to continue working along the industry professionals within the VENI team and continue to learn from them.
